Happy summer!!! I’m sure everyone’s feeling the temperature outside warm up — Virginia’s been very hot lately. So in honor of summer, we’re doing a book tag!
For those of you who don’t know what a book tag is, basically it’s when other creators come up with a list of questions or categories for books, answer them, and then “tag” other creators or bloggers to continue the chain!

Summer means sun! What’s a book that has a sunny setting?
Stuart Gibbs’ Spy School Goes South. Ben and his friends spend the entire mission in Mexico over spring break — and *spoiler* almost get eaten by crocodiles. Plus going on high-speed chases down waterslides, and infiltrating a penthouse, AND a beach villa. Very eventful book if I do say so myself.
School’s out and so are the kids. What’s your favorite middle-grade read thus far this year?
Hmmmm, I haven’t read a ton of middle grade lately, but I love Alan Gratz’s historical MG books! I discovered his books this year and have LOVED them. My favorites would probably be Projekt 1065 or Allies!
Longer days are upon us! Name a long book that you have on your bookshelf (a physical copy or otherwise 😉).
I have a copy of all of the Chronicles of Narnia books combined into one! It’s pretty small text and there’s 766 pages — I don’t even want to know how many words that book is. And no, I’ve never read it cover to cover before. I’m not THAT crazy.
Summer means cold watermelon, iced drinks, and ice cream. Who’s a character you turned a cold shoulder to in the beginning, but eventually warmed up to?
Clay Paxton in Sarah Sundin’s The Land Beneath Us! When I first met Clay he seemed like a resentful, unforgiving guy, but that was actually just his character arc — he turned it around by the end of the book! All of the Paxton boys from Sarah Sundin’s Sunrise at Normandy series have become my new favorite characters 😉
Nobody likes rotten weather spoiling outside plans. Which book had an unexpected twist that you didn’t see coming?
Any of Jennifer Nielsen’s historical fiction books! The plot twists in Iceberg and Words on Fire were incredible — no one can pull off a plot twist like Jennifer Nielsen does. And I’ll never forget the first time I read Resistance…. that ending made me stare at the book in pure shock.
Green thumbs rejoice at the opening of the growing season. Name a book with green on the cover.
The Golden Braid by Melanie Dickerson! I recently picked it up at the library — since Rapunzel’s my favorite Disney princess — and it’s been a pretty good read so far! The cover shows Rapunzel in a green field with her long braid trailing behind her. Very Rapunzel-y!
Summer is the season for reunions. What’s a series that incorporated characters or cameos from past books?
Sarah Sundin’s Sunrise at Normandy series! The 3 books follow three estranged brothers, and in each book the brothers slowly grow and *spoiler* eventually come back together. Sarah even included scenes where two of the brothers were at the same location, but in book 1 it seems like only Wyatt saw Adler, when after reading book 2 you realize that Adler also saw Wyatt from where he was walking. I loved that!!
The thermometer is climbing . . . and shows no sign of stopping. What’s a book with high stakes that just kept getting more intense?
There’s so many to choose from!! Probably Lines of Courage by Jennifer Nielsen, Stuart Gibbs’ Spy School Goes North, or Shannon Hale’s Princess Academy! I love books with suspense — I recently stayed up till 1:45 AM just to finish the last book of Sunrise at Normandy. It was just that good.
